“I’ve always enjoyed smudging the lines between a variety of creative disciplines and recently this has meant exploring how I can tell stories and elevate experiences through a thoughtful consideration of food and nutrition. I’ve carefully chosen the ingredients to ensure each mouthful is packed with the nutrients needed to keep our participants strong for the task! I hope these highly considered morsels provide food for thought on many different levels.”

Vitoria : Buraco
by Ebun Sodipo
A work in progress sharing of a newly commissioned theatre performance
Friday 08th at 7pm
A theatrical performance by Ebun Sodipo, Vitoria : Buraco will focus on Vitoria, an enslaved African trans woman living in Lisbon in the 17th century.
Vitoria is the first step in an ongoing research and practice honouring the life of Vitoria. The premiere of this work will take place at Live Collision International Festival 2024 supported by the Commission Award from Arts Council Ireland with additional support from Carlow Arts Festival.
Vitoria was a healer and sex worker living in Lisbon’s waterfront, who attracted the attention of the Portuguese Inquisition, who sentenced her to perpetual imprisonment as a rower on the King of Portugal’s galleys. She was from Benin in modern-day Nigeria, stating in her trial that women where she was from had bodies like her, gesturing to an alternative gender system, and way of relating to the body.
Developed using the transcripts from her trial, and scholarship on her life, the performance centres on Sodipo’s relationship to this archive and what it means to find Vitoria. Taking place between Benin, Lisbon, the artist’s bath, dream space and the hole in the sky, the story of Vitoria will be told in a non-linear narrative using monologue, movement and sound. The premiere will take place in 2024 in Dublin as part of Live Collision International Festival, Vitoria is the first step in an ongoing research and practice honouring the life of Vitoria.
Access: This performance will be live captioned

LAKE BURST
by Maïa Nunes
A work in progress of a newly commissioned site-specific performance artwork in the form of a short film
Saturday 09th at 6.30pm
Extract a new site-specific performance artwork in the form of a short film.
This experimental work reinterprets “A River Claiming It’s Due” (an Irish folklore tale of a lake calling for the inevitable death of its next victim) as a story of inner conflict and spiritual rebirth.
Original soundscape, costume and movement are woven together in a transformational journey of spirit and flesh, seduction and illusion, summoning and willpower, resistance and surrender.
