The Bureau of Speculative Archaeology
Diana Bamimeke
THE BUREAU OF SPECULATIVE ARCHAEOLOGY is proud to partner with LIVE COLLISION for the LIVE COLLISION INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2024, on the occasion of the festival screening of MAIA NUNES’ film LAKE BURST.
Founded ten years after total climate collapse in the year [REDACTED], THE BUREAU is a TRANS-TEMPORAL CULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL, dedicated to investigating pre-collapse humanity in the archaeological record. In conjunction with LIVE COLLISION, the pre-collapse LIVE ART FESTIVAL, and festival artist MAΪA NUNES, THE BUREAU will initiate research on INDUSTRIAL ARTEFACTS and MARINE ECOLOGY. Representative DIANA BAMIMEKE will conduct a talk with invited artists and writers, followed by a participatory RESEARCH EXCURSION to a selected body of water in what was then-known and is now known as Dublin.
Responding to Maïa Nunes’ site-specific performance film Lake Burst, curator and writer Diana Bamimeke invites audiences to consider the implications of extraction and alienation on our planet, and on our psyches. Using strategies of speculative fiction and archaeological practice, THE BUREAU OF SPECULATIVE ARCHAEOLOGY, a fictional cultural heritage department, will facilitate a post-screening talk with invited guests and festival artists, followed by a participatory outdoor workshop at Clontarf seafront.’
