No feeling is final
Lee Welch
Live Collision has partnered with Berlin Opticians Gallery to launch our 2019 festival and co-present this once off event ‘No feeling is final’ by artist Lee Welch
We discover that we do not know our role; we look for a mirror; we want to remove our make-up and take off what is false and real. But somewhere a piece of disguise that we forgot still sticks to us. A trace of exaggeration remains in our eyebrows; we do not notice that the corners of our mouth are bent. And so we walk around, a mockery and a mere half: neither having achieved being nor actors. – RAINER MARIA RILKE
‘No feeling is final’ is an interdisciplinary experiment inclusive of two new paintings by Lee Welch created for LCIF2019, and existing artworks by Liliane Puthod.
“
I sort of understood that when I first started: that you shouldn’t repeat a success. Very often you’re going to, and maybe the first time you do, it works. And you love it. But then you’re trapped. I’ll be honest, it’s very difficult to explain. It’s virtually impossible.

Lee Welch – Artist
Lee Welch recently began making figurative paintings that aim to explore and negotiate the relationship between artist, subject and viewer. These paintings also deeply question images relating to ever-shifting human connections and the endless intricacies of looking. Notions of sensuality and self-disclosure are also parceled up in this work. Welch received his MFA at the Piet Zwart Institute, Rotterdam. He was recently awarded a residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. His work has been featured in numerous institutions including Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Michigan; Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; CCA, Derry; Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (MUSAC), León, Spain. His paintings feature in public collections such as Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; OPW and private collections. Welch was born in Kentucky, USA and lives and works in Cork and Dublin.
Berlin Opticians Gallery – presenting partner
Berlin Opticians Gallery presents and promotes the artists’ works by combining a scheduled programme of exhibitions available through online documentation with off-site physical exhibitions and projects in various unique spaces around Dublin.
Berlin Opticians was formed with the artists as the first priority. Mindful of the recurring closures of mid-tier galleries globally, and in response to a significant new trend, Berlin Opticians has decided to launch and operate without a physical gallery space. By doing so, the gallery is free to focus on nurturing the careers of individual artists in an ever-changing art market and ecosystem.
